
Dr. Luis Washington Lu, B.S., M.D., F.A.C.S. is an internationally recognized double board-certified ophthalmologist by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Board of Eye Surgery, former founder of the Elk County Eye Clinic / Pennsylvania Eye Consultants and, Medical Director at the new Eye Consultants of Arizona, a state-of-the-art complex eye surgery consultation facility serving the needs of patients from Phoenix and surrounding cities. A known vision correction expert, Dr. Lu specializes in complex eye surgeries. He has been listed in as one of the “Top Eye Surgeons” in the country and he is regarded as the “Doctor’s Doctor”.
Over the course of his career he has been honored with awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Barraquer award from the Keratomileusis Study Group, The Nikon award, the Peruvian, Argentinian, Colombian, and Mexican Ophthalmology Society awards, as well as been seven times recipient of the American Medical Association Achievement Award.
After college, he graduated from the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University with honors in 1975. An internship and general surgery studies were spent before his formal training in ophthalmology at the HHC Division of The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York. He had a year of Fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, and he held a teaching appointment at Columbia until he relocated to St. Marys, PA in 1982.
Dr. Lu held a clinical instructor appointment at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is a Honorary Professor of Ophthalmology at the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University School of Medicine. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and, life-member of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology. Member of the Arizona Latin-american Medical Association and the Maricopa Medical Society, he was the past president of the Elk-Cameron County Medical Society.
Dr. Lu has dedicated his career to the latest advancements, education and research in the field of eye surgery. He has designed award-winning ophthalmic surgical instruments, written three textbooks in eye surgery, over 25 chapters for ophthalmic surgical books, about 500 articles in continuing medical education for ophthalmologists, and his work has been published in some of the most prestigious medical journals internationally.
Married to Laura E. Lu, R.N, CRNO, have two children, Architect L. Michael Lu and doctor-in-training Andrew N. Lu.
Dr. Lu is married to Laura E. Lu, R.N., ASORN, OMA. They have two children, Michael and Andrew.
